Character Information

Name: Futaba Sakura
Canon: Persona 5
Canon Point: October 11th, before the party at Destinyland
Age: 15
History: Here!
Personality: The first bit of this is going to sound a little like a history section, but that's because Futaba's personality goes through some big changes between her introduction and the canon point I'm drawing her from. I think it's important to discuss where she came from as well as where she is now to give a sense of perspective, so hopefully it all makes sense in the end. Please bear with me!

When Futaba is first introduced, she is at a very low point in her life. She is a hikikomori who doesn't go to school, rarely ventures outside her room, and largely communicates through the outside world through the Internet. This is primarily due to the trauma surrounding her mother's death that she is unable to let go of. She was raised by a single mother who was often busy with her research and had little time to spend with her daughter, and after she died, the mysterious men in black who came to take care of her affairs delivered her a fake suicide note that caused her to blame herself. To compound this, she was taken in by abusive and neglectful relatives who wouldn't even let her bathe, and as a result she developed an extreme guilt complex, trauma, PTSD, extreme agoraphobia, and even visual and auditory hallucinations of her mother berating her. Two years after her mother's death, she is borderline suicidal, subconsciously believing that her own death would allow her mother to return.

Futaba's life would likely have ended tragically if she hadn't reached out to the Phantom Thieves. Her mother's research was related to the kinds of changes in heart they'd been producing in their targets, and in her desperation, Futaba contacted them to request they steal her heart in hopes that it would end her pain. In the course of the party's adventures through Futaba's subconscious mind, she is able to piece together the truth of what happened to her mother - she was essentially murdered by the men in black by having her mind broken. When she accepts the truth that her mother loved her, and swears her revenge, she is able to awaken her Persona to aid the Phantom Thieves. It's at this point that she starts to open up more, finally free from the guilt and mental anguish she's been putting herself through for the past two years.

With the help of the Phantom Thieves, Futaba begins to come out of her shell, albeit slowly. She is initially quiet and withdrawn, preferring to sit in the corner and work on her computer rather than actively contribute to conversations. When she has to be around strangers, she either hides behind Akira or wears large masks over her head that make it impossible to identify her. Slowly but surely, however, she emerges as a friend and a full member of the Phantom Thieves. Once she becomes comfortable around them, she exhibits a playful personality (especially enjoying teasing Yusuke and Morgana), though she maintains a healthy distrust of adults due to her past. She still gets overwhelmed in crowds or around strangers, and sometimes breaks down or has panic attacks in unfamiliar places if she finds herself alone, but eventually she's even able to take trips to Akihabara by herself to buy video games and computer parts.

Futaba's main hobbies are computers and video games, and she's an especially talented hacker. She learned some of what she knows from watching her mother, with the rest being self-taught while she was closed away from the world. The illegal nature of her hobby doesn't seem to bother her much, as she's equally eager to take down the criminal hacker group Medjed as she is at digging up confidential details about the Phantom Thieves' targets. She even hacks into a TV broadcast late in the game to deliver a message to the entire city of Tokyo. This is roughly in line with the attitude of the Phantom Thieves in general, in that Futaba feels that sometimes it's necessary to go outside the law in order to deliver true justice.

Aside from hacking, Futaba enjoys collecting anime merchandise and eating good food. She is a big fan of Phoenix Ranger Featherman R, and her room is filled with posters and figurines from the series. She gets rather sensitive about other people touching them or other things she owns, as a side effect of having spent so much time by herself. As far as food, her favorite thing to eat is curry - specifically, the curry made by her adoptive father. It's special for both of them because he got the recipe from her mother, and Futaba views it as something that still binds the three of them together even now. Futaba seems to have a second stomach just for curry, and is particularly fond of announcing when she wants some by enthusiastically exclaiming 'I hunger!'

At the current point in the timeline, Futaba and the other Phantom Thieves are riding high after a series of flawless Palace thefts. She's just a few hours away from the televised death of their latest target, when everything comes crashing down, but at the current point in time she's actually gotten a little cocky. The Phantom Thieves have seen nothing but success in their efforts, and their popularity is surging on social media. Within the space of only a few months, Futaba's trauma was turned around, she made friends with a very supportive group of people, and everything they've done has worked out spectacularly. All of this together has left Futaba feeling on top of the world, maybe even a little bit invincible. She feels like she's part of a group that hands down punishment to those who deserve it, and so far she hasn't seen anything wrong with their methods.

Abilities: Futaba possesses the power of Persona, enabling her to call upon supernatural abilities powered by her spirit of rebellion. Her Persona, Necronomicon, is a support type, taking the form of a UFO that she sits inside to monitor the flow of battle. It has no attacks, specializing entirely in information gathering and supporting allies. Its abilities are as follows:
Analysis - Keeps track of the strengths and weaknesses of enemies.
Subrecover HP - Restores some health to allies at the end of a fight.
Subrecover SP - Restores some magic to allies at the end of a fight.
Moral Support - Can raise the attack power of allies or heal them during a fight.
Mementos Scan - Chance to obtain a map of an area upon entry, at the discretion of the mod or player running the location.
Position Hack - Chance to turn an ambush around to allow Futaba's allies to act first, with the permission of the players involved.
Active Support - Moral Support can also 'charge' allies (enabling them to deal double damage with their first attack), or recover magic.

Strengths: Intelligent, playful, caring, creative, fast learner
Weaknesses: Anxious, capricious, childish, eccentric, suspicious

God/Shinki: God
Why?: Because Futaba would probably just be a shut-in if she were a shinki, and that would be boring. Also because I thought of the best god choice for her.
Top 3 Choices: Yog-Sothoth, Seshat, Horus
God Type: Futaba is well-acquainted with the lore of Lovecraft, considering her Persona. She's not too keen on driving mortals insane, creating cults, or birthing unfathomable horrors from beyond the stars, so she'll pull back from that and fashion herself as a god of forbidden knowledge and riddles. Still mysterious and inscrutable, but in a more benign way. She'll try to answer prayers creatively and subtly to keep her followers guessing. If she's doing it right, they won't be sure she's even listening.
Power: Mechanical Intuition. Futaba's power enables her to fully understand any mechanical device. This includes what it is made of, how the parts fit together, how to operate it, the best way to disable it, and any existing structural weak points. She must be able to touch the machine in order to use this power, and the more complicated it is, the longer she will need to maintain physical contact in order to fully understand it. The power does not grant her any special facility with creating or building machines, although being able to understand how they are put together may make it easier in a general sense.
